I try to give the most grace possible. I’ve only ever blocked two users here. That said, I’d totally understand why someone might block me.

If it’s gross porn or AI slop, instant block. For comments it’s only if we get like a dozen replies into an argument and I stop assuming they’re able to read

Im fairly quick to block, especially if the person is clearly acting with bad intent. Id rather have slow and steady high quality content than mediocre garbage every few seconds. Social media does not consume my life and I lived in the era of forums. I am used to waiting for good content.

I don’t block super quickly unless they’re obvious spam, bot, or troll with bad intentions. I am very quick to apply user tags my Lemmy client supports so that I can flag them for future reference. I use yellow to mean they’re sus, consider their intent and recent history before engaging. I use red to mean “do not engage” just sit back and watch other people fall into the trap. I use Green for interesting people to pay attention to when they post or comment, like the dude/ette we have on Lemmy who is actively working on the Roku client for Jellyfin.

I don’t think I’ve blocked anybody, but I mostly don’t read names. Sometimes I wonder if I’m having a metaphorical fist fight in one thread and a love fest in another with the same person.

Some names stick out to me sometimes. Like fuck I know I’ve argued with X person before but I can’t remember the context. I just remember they suck.

I tend to only block people that are either being really hostile, sealions, trolls, far right weirdos, tankies, bigots, AI chuds, or if they are arguing in bad faith. I also block any straight or lesbian porn instances because that isn’t what I want to appear in my feeds.

  • Life is too short to deal with assholes and bots. They get blocked very quickly.

When I made this account, I went through the communities and blocked a lot of them. All sports, foreign languages, anime, and furries. All the content I know that I have no interest in.

I could only imagine blocking susers that are actively harrasing me or posting spam. I find a low blocking threshold blocking a bit immature and solipsistic.

I do block porn channels, becuse i dont whant porn in my feed.

I block a lot less after switching to piefed which has a feature where I can tag users with poop and barfing and other emojies as it reminds me to laugh at the user instead of engaging.

Originally I didn’t like blocking people or communities at all but I’ve realised the lemmy experience is dramatically improved by blocking idiots.

The thing is lemmy is a relatively small community. If some nutter posts and comments every day they can really shape your impression of the place.

Some users have very little life experience, and depth of understanding, and are just fixated on some single issue. I’m not here to argue with that type of user.

Yesterday I blocked a community just because the single mod didn’t understand the problems caused by editorialising titles when posting articles.

Not often. I browse by new all so I can begin the downvote train as early as possible and report stuff.

    I don’t think I’ve blocked anyone.

I do go through and block any subs I’ve been banned from, temporary or permanent. If I wanted posts I couldn’t interact with, I have incognito for that.

I’m very quick to block. Much faster to do so than I was on Reddit. I think the reason is because there’s so much less content on Lemmy that I sort by new instead of “hot”. That means I see content that would normally have been downvoted out of sight on Reddit. I’m tired of giving people the benefit of the doubt just to see the same terrible shit from them again later on. Now I just block.
