What I meant by power imbalance was people shouldn’t date if, for instance, one person is the other persons teacher or boss. Which applies even if both are over 18.

And I think it’s fine for a 19 year old to date someone 2 or 3 years younger than them. It’s hard to pin down exactly what an acceptable age difference is. In some countries the rule is at a certain age you can consent with people up to two years older and at a certain age, people up to five years older

18 being the magic age where you become an adult is a social construct. Maturity comes gradually. I think it’s fine for an over 18 to date an under 18 if they’re close in age and neither is in a position of power over the other

She’s nuts. She preaches about how we all need to tune out all the hate and negativity in the world, seemingly unaware that she’s contributing to it with constantly repeating hateful misinformation

My aunt was offended that I said I have heard her spread hateful misinformation about transgender people. She sent me some unhinged messages that I spread hate and I support Disney even though it’s run by pedophiles and that transgender people are shooting up schools. And she doesn’t understand why I think she spreads hateful disinformation about transgender people.

She also said McDonald’s has aborted fetuses in their burgers. She has also, in past conversations, repeated other insane myths about transgender people lopping off six-year-old’s penises and queer people conspiring to reduce the population

This woman just has no awareness of what comes out of her own mouth. I believe there is a disconnect in her brain. She simultaneously preaches acceptance and inclusivity while also somehow believing every bit of hateful misinformation you have ever heard about queer people. Just repeats whatever she’s told while accusing everyone else of being sheep.

That’s what makes me really angry lately. It seems there would have been a lot fewer Trump voters if people made the connection that rules apply to them.

I think it’s okay to like Harry Potter but one should approach it with the awareness that Rowling’s prejudices had an impact on the work and try not to let it influence your views. For example, recognize that the pro-slavery stuff with the house elves is kind of fucked up.

I really want to watch the upcoming TV series. I was going to until a few days ago. I think it looks like a really good adaptation of the books. I hope I get to see it eventually. But I’ve recently decided I don’t want to watch it in a way that supports Rowling given the recent laws in the Untied States targeting transgender people. I don’t want to contribute to the hate and misinformation against transgender people. There’s also the fact that the studio will soon be controlled by Paramount and I don’t want to support them either.

Still, I don’t expect the show itself to be transphobic and I think it is therefore fine to watch the show if it doesn’t support Rowling. I might watch if it gets uploaded to YouTube or Rowling dies (not wishing her dead, just saying then I would be able to watch the series guiltlessly)

Police education requirements. In North America, there are like hundreds of different police forces with vastly different requirements. Some will hire highschool dropouts while others require a university education.

No, it isn’t okay to say mean things because someone rejected you. A person has every right to reject someone. You can’t force someone to date you. The person can’t help their feelings, they can’t force themself to want to date you. Being rejected does not call for being mean to someone.

Movies that have anti-consumerism messages are inherently hypocritical. Unless it’s somehow released in such a way that there’s no intent of making money and there’s no merchandising.

It’s fun to see ironic cases of merchandising that goes against the film’s message. The Hunger Games had make-up lines based on the Capitol look. I haven’t looked it up but I promise you Toy Story 5 has or will have a mobile game based on it even though the point of the film seems to be to encourage playing with physical toys instead of apps.
