Let me know when you find a neurologist that says brains are just like LLMs.

Let me know when you find a neurologist that says brains are just like LLMs.

I’m currently working on a degree in a moderately research/writing heavy major, and I don’t use it at all. The things I’m researching are too niche, I don’t want my writing edited to be less interesting, and school policy prohibits it for anything but brainstorming ideas. Which, I already know what I’m interested in, I don’t need it to tell me that even if it could.
I have straight A’s and no intention of changing how I (don’t) use AI.

Okay, but like… that’s all we are too.
Whoever told you that was lying to you or misinformed. Neuroscientists do not look at the brain as a probabilistic prediction tool. You are not a database with weights, you’re a human being with experiences, emotions, and thoughts.

It is if you add alt text, which makes the internet more accessible for everyone 👍

So they have the power to run a smear campaign that would alter society’s opinion on AI—which is so very useful and everyone would love it otherwise—but they don’t have the power to influence the building of billions of dollars of infrastructure to power these data centers?
The people pushing this are the people that benefit from the general populace being dumb as shit. That’s why they’re pushing it. AI doesn’t make anyone more informed or intelligent, it’s an echo chamber.

You could have just gone to the page without asking daddy Copilot how to do it 🤷♂️

Guys trying to shove AI into everything: oh nooo, pleeeaaase don’t use our product, we would haaaate it if you did that!
Worst conspiracy ever.

If AI is just like a video data center, why did data center energy usage stay stable before AI? Why has data center energy usage doubled since 2010 if videos and AI are equivalent in energy usage?

You do not have access to a secret LLM that doesn’t introduce errors. You either don’t notice them or dismiss them.

Left front: phone
Right front: keys, change, sometimes earplugs
Right butt: wallet
Anything else I need is in my backpack.

Imagine being the right wing candidate and seeing your opponent just bike off into the sunset after you lost by campaigning on bringing back cars. lol. lmao.

Agreed, the only time in the past decade I’ve talked at length (more than 5 sec) to my apartment neighbors was when one of the moms got (understandably) very upset about catching a homeless guy jerking off in the apartment garage. Meanwhile in my tiny hometown you can’t go to the grocery store without people who knew your parents 20+ years ago trying to make conversation with you.

A fair amount of motorcyclists manage to do themselves in on their own, but based on the shit I’ve heard from riders about near misses I’d bet it’s more car induced than anything.

If you’ve never wanted to die on a bike, you’re not pedaling hard enough! Or it’s not 95 F/35 C outside, one or the other.

I’m entirely convinced the whole thing was invented to scam Meta. So congrats to all the people who got paid along the way!

That doesn’t count, everyone does that! Can I tell you about that guy I saw on a bike who blew through a stop sign?
-people driving a 2 ton car

If you’re going to be your own lawyer or perform a bit of self surgery, there is no way the AI is helping that situation. Especially if the inherent nature of AI is to validate everything you say.

Way too late for that, and I wouldn’t decide it’s their fault they died even if they did get sucked into bot psychosis.

I hope you never have a child or relative with mental illness.
Rewording a description of what an LLM is and saying brains are just like that is still saying that brains work like LLMs, even if you didn’t use those exact words. The acknowledgment that neurologists do not find evidence to support that is pretty much all that is necessary to tear that down, no matter how many times you repeat it.
