The punishment is being a creature with free will on earth and the ability to comptemplatr shame for moral decisions (because we can fail). At least at this point of the story

Because as a story theres lots of lessons we can draw from it, and interpret in many ways like literature enthusiasts do. As a historical document holy fuck help me satan
