I usually just watch through Mastodon, you can play the videos through there. If I want to check the users other videos I click to the Peertube site. But yeah, comments and following is done via Mastodon.
Yeah sadly that’s the nature of it being decentralized, I guess.
But just FYI, from what I understand, if you write a comment in Mastodon, it is visible in peertube… I think…? Not sure. So if you want to get rid of youtube, just start with watching Peertube whatever way you feel is best for you. I’d suggest Mastodon, its pretty simple and good looking way to do it.

Ironically its peertube -> peertube that sometimes fails. It very much depends on the server.
For better or worse, fedivese allows users to set up their own little fiefdoms when you use their platform. And there are rules (some good some bad) that come with those. Even lemmy/piefed are like this.
