5·15 days agoI am not sure if this is the real reason. C++ is still a very valid option. People used to low level languages can rather easy switch the language they are writing in.
Maybe one day we will find out the real reason.
Of course this is a matter of how well the maintainers took care of tech debt. Additionally, architectural changes are often not possible or only if you put a lot of effort in it.
You are certainly right at this point. To be honest, I have never looked at the source of LibreOffice and it might be a huge mess. Additionally, the maintainers need to be somewhat cooperative. I could imagine that this is also a problem (developing many years of FOSS makes your personality really toxic unfortunately)
So old code is now suddenly bad? Weird and somewhat also not the case, as LibreOffice is constantly updated.
I guess it is a preference. I for myself tend to rather use a FreeBSD than Fedora for production environments.
Why don’t they contribute to LibreOffice Online?

This. And forking is easy. Maintaining a big piece of software is not. This is why every popular repo has hundreds of forks, but non of them are active or in sync with upstream.
Is it wild? Subjectively absolutely and also inhumane.
Is it a rare case? I don’t think so, if you look at Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, hell even the most sane billionaire Warren Buffet.
Luckily in some states there are limits how much the top employee can earn vs. the cheapest employee. But usually this is only enforced for governmental bodies.
Makes absolutely sense to continue working on this job, even though you hate it. No one forces you to work for adult models. There are always other opportunities. But that would require courage.
And complaining about how much the creators earn versus how much they earn; you don’t say? This is part of this fucked up capitalistic world. 99% of employers are like that.

Sure. Go ahead and find them based on pure speculation. First you have to put down $100k for all the forensics. Even if you would win the case, show me who is capable of doing something like that.
For technical reasons, you never immediately delete records, as it is computationally very intense.
For business reasons, you never want to delete anything at all, because data = money.

Agree. Probably best notebook for students and also for smaller companies, if you’re not relying on high end hardware.
And so is every other cent invested into any US tech company. This also includes watching a single ad on YouTube. So stop with those boycotts, if I have no other choice but to use those services on a daily basis.

- services like that will never be successful, unfortunately. Social platforms only work if enough people you know use it. But you will never know it in the first place, as individual owners lack the proper marketing to spread around the word.
