I like that angle about safe disappointments.

I guess. I think with any single winner system you’ll encounter gamesmanship, and enough proportional representation can smooth a lot of that over anyway

I didn’t mean to say he was innocent of anything. His crimes are well known; but they were done in service of moneyed interests who were the real decision-makers behind it all.

He was just a feckless chemist, better to blame the DuPonts, GM, and other moneyed interests who have depended on such useful idiots and the corruptability of the US government since its earliest days.

I was a big proponent of approval voting for over a decade, and I still would prefer it over most systems. But I really like STAR voting now as well, and have actually used it in the home to pick what to watch on movie nights. STV seems pretty decent too.

How do you get the Christmas present you want? Simply tell Santa.

Thanks. Doing so didn’t change my mind, but it reminded me that these are complex problems to solve.

Maybe I have gone soft. I should just turn up my GWAR collection and rock that funky chicken.

I admire Tyranny from afar, but I think it’d depress me too much.

It’s a good little campus, lots of art strewn about in a delightfully careless way. I only got to see it because there was a birthday party at the venue.

No no, you see other people did bad things, so the scientists’ attempts to make the world a better place are bad. That’s just how ethical philosophy works, I don’t make the rules

College campus in Weymouth

I would only add to that, if a creator actively uses their money and/or platform for evil, don’t pay for their shit and don’t buzz market them… I don’t care if you want to keep listening to Kanye or whatever, just don’t help them. I take in some problematic content from time to time, but I’ll be damned if I give money to a fascist.

Computers have been good enough for years though, we just keep writing worse code. There is no good reason for a laptop with 8gb ram running Windows to need six seconds to rename a file, and that’s basically normal performance… especially if you have to have OneDrive on for work.

I hear the Neo is more repairable than a lot of macs, but the whole idea of “everything on one chip” still feels like an anti-feature.

The people pushing those laws super don’t care 😒

Regrettably accurate. It does often feel as if car murderers get off really easily in the US.
If I was going to be an assassin, all I’d need was an average truck.

More chagrined than anything else. Having dual citizenship with US and UK is like having one foot in the grave and another foot in the toilet sometimes.
The problem is cars themselves. Bad technology overall, imo
