Bruh. Everything doesn’t have to be political. I simply don’t have the time, energy and willingness to learn and contribute to a project which people in my community are not even going to use. The incentive simply isn’t their for anyone when there is already a perfectly working solution—as much as I hate to say—from Google. I wish OSM and the maps & navigation apps using it were more popular and better but they aren’t simply because they don’t have dedicated teams.

Google Maps also get contributions from the community (which is much larger than OSM). So google benefits from volunteer contributions as well as their own teams mapping stuff around the world which OSM can never match. It isn’t something like Search, Drive or Photos that can be replaced by a community driven FOSS alternative. It requires huge funding.

I throw a lot of shit at Google but Google Maps is the best piece of software they have ever created. I wish OSM was this upto date with their data but it has a long way to go. I think this that piece of software which needs a big dedicated team or at-least paid volunteers instead of community volunteers because there ain’t no way I am going out to volunteer for free to map out my neighbourhood accurately.

I mean if you live within walking/public transport distance of stuff, you don’t need a car thus you don’t need a parking (or as americans call it — the driveway) or the garage in the house, thus you don’t need as big as of a house on the ground floor which can be used by a store, restaurant or cafe instead and people can live above it. It’s a win-win for residents, store owners below, environment, urban planning and communities.

Lol our store is doing billing customer management in google chrome on Debian With KDE Plasma on 8GB DDR3 pentium something. It was running Windows 7 6 months ago with 4gb ram for the same purpose. I then put a Sata SSD, increased the RAM to 8 and installed Debian. The laptops then would have costed like 300 USD and the upgrades costed like 30usd each laptpp for 4 laptops.

You really don’t need a soldered Half eaten and overpriced Apple laptop to do what you’re saying. Even an old laptop does it with few tweaks for fraction of the cost while keeping all the good stuff from those laptops like shit ton of ports. The only advantage of this mac is that its battery drain is quite low being ARM.

Imagine what the world could be if we had repairable Arch Linux Phones that can go full desktop mode just like the pixel rn. Aaahhh that turns me on!🤤
