Is that supposed to be unethical? Well I guess pirating everything includes things where paying would be fair.

You have a mander.xyz account, not a piefed.social account.

Yeah that’s exactly what they proposed.

Mostly licensing. Every single hdmi port manufsctured requires a fee, and the closedness just holds tech back.

You gotta start somewhere. If this sells, there might be another.

But do commercial monitors make good tvs?

Now gimme one without smart tv bullshit

I said migrate away. I don’t know what kind of access the managed service includes. This is something that I think should be clearly stated on the website.

I checked out the website, but I can’t find any mention of being able to migrate away or downloading the databases. How do these managed services work?

You could ask the community if someone can and wants to run an instance, but chances are that the idea is dead already. You then have to convince the communities to move, which could also not work, or even backfire.
So I’m not very convinced that this will happen, unless you decide to just do it yourself. Become the change you wish to see.

Sure, it could be good. However…

Interesting that someone can do that much but not know that cars use wiring harnesses.

Sony is and was pretty big in cameras and music players

They at least used to have their own “memory sticks”, but I think those are long discontinued.

Blocking all foreign posts, even on local communities sounds like it might be an unwanted side effect.

Does instance block block everything from the instance?

This is a feature in lemmy and piefed themselves, every app should support it.

I don’t believe that this is for the better, nor that this is done in good faith to protect users. They already tried to make it mandatory to go through Google, which is a pretty clear hint of their actual goal.
Google pushes the safety narrative, but this also conveniently entrenches Google as the authority over alternatives and hurts not only FOSS, but also competing app stores from other companies like Amazon, Samsung, or whatever Chinese manufacturers.

It sure is a completely unnecessary burden designed as a deterrant.
To me the it sounds a bit more likely that they’re regulating insurance companies and not the customers.
