That’s right. The user (or administrator if it’s a work machine) installs or removes acceptable certificates into firmware database. Typically a device you buy in the past 15 years or so comes with Microsoft certificates preinstalled, but it doesn’t have to stay like that.

His wealth is mostly imaginary. It’s how much his companies are “valued” in stock exchange. Tesla being worth 6x Toyota or 30x VW makes no logical sense, they no way that kind of sales, but shares get bought and sold at insane numbers.

Now unfortunately, some of that wealth is real, plus imaginary wealth still wields a lot of power.

I use Ad Nausaem (probably butchered the spelling) Firefox plugin on my home PC for that. Instead of blocking ads, it hides them into a sandbox and “clicks” on all of them in the background. Won’t use it on anything battery-powered though.

They are similar platforms and they federate, i.e. you can see all Lemmy content with a Piefed account and vice versa.

Deserving is irrelevant under Capitalism. It’s only whether they can get away with it or not?

I use Perplexity for my searches, and it really depends on how much I care about the subject. I heard a name and don’t know who they are? LLM summary is good enough to have an idea. Doing research or looking up technical info? I open the cited sources.

Seriously, they messed up his arrest and legal process so bad that I’m almost convinced they got the wrong guy.

There was the housing crisis that hurt people’s money a bit. A lot was more affordable. Overall there was more hope and anticipation for the future.

That delusion keeps pumping up stocks.
