Yeah as soon as I started making real money I didn’t go nuts, but I started to notice little signs of a new sickness: stopped feeling bad whenever I used a paper towel, would buy things without looking at the price, got into expensive hobbies like cognac and cigars.

I wasn’t even rich, just had lots of disposable income all of a sudden.

Anyway, it didn’t suit me at all. I’m actually really ashamed.

Yeah even at a more working class level, because of the lack of social safety net, healthcare, guaranteed pension - you can never know how much money you’ll need to be safe, so you just keep grinding and trying to save.

But you’ve got the real sickos I guess who wouldn’t be content just being safe. They want enough power to enact their will on others and insulate them from other power seeking ghouls.

People talk about Windows v Linux being like “you get what you pay for” but any distro or package that fucked around this much would be dropped so fucking fast.
