From what I’ve seen so far, the people of the US would go along with it.
They haven’t marched on the White House en masse to remove him after Trump was revealed to be a rapist, then a child rapist. Nor when his gestapo were murdering people in the street. Nor when children were being teargassed, or trafficked by them. Nor as people are wasting away (and sometimes dying/being murdered) in his gulags, citizen or not. Nor when he openly flaunts his corruption. Nor when he comes within a gnat’s whisker of starting WWIII!
It won’t just be MAGAts that aren’t trusted when Trump finally dies, it’ll be the US as a whole, given what’s been accepted by the population in general, MAGat, or not. The line in the sand is constantly redrawn. People referring to the protections offered by the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights after Trump is gone - as if they’re in some way superior to other countries - will be looked at derisively, because nothing was done to protect people’s rights, nothing was done to apply penalties for those in power breaking the law.
Hundreds of millions of people tweeted, marched, and wrung their hands while the worst leader in the free world fucked you all in the ear and took your money. And that was pretty much it.
There’s a lovely Ted Talk about how he found himself a meme, and how much he appreciates being able to bring joy to people, and travel because of it.
