Thats a crazy story. Are there any articles online or anything I can read about it?
As is the way of my people 🇨🇦, I would like to make an apology. It is as follows:
Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, I will say things I later regret. So take this as a blanket statement: if you and I have ever gotten in an argument on Lemmy/Piefed and I called you a mean name (such as ‘stupid’, ‘angry little elf’, ‘grumpy little fella’, etc.), then I am sorry. In most cases, I was not the first to one to fire a shot, but that is beside the point. Please accept my apology nonetheless.
My other account is @a_gee_dizzle@lemmy.ca

Who’s The All Thing?

That sounds interesting. Could you elaborate?

That seems to be consistent with the Pareto principle though
Got all my posts, but the comments on other users posts - well you only get access to what you put up in the prior year - a change that dropped with the IPO.
I didn’t realize they did that, that’s super shady. They also made it so you can choose to make it so that other users can’t see your post history. Makes it difficult to find out who the bots are

Technically, they are predicting the next token. To do that properly they may need to predict the next idea, but thats just a means to an end (the end being the next token).
Your comments about the bot training reminded me of this article. There’s definitely some shady stuff going on behind the scenes
What did you say?

Maybe pushing Piefed instead of lemmy would be the way to go. Piefed has a more beginner friendly UI and makes it easier to find new communities

Very similar culturally.
This is true for big anglo cities like Vancouver and Toronto but Quebec, Newfoundland, and the North all have very distinct local cultures. Even Manitoba is relatively distinct imo

I know you mean well but generally Canadians find it annoying when Americans propose we annex them. This is a common joke we get. But just like we don’t like it when Trump jokes about Canada being the 51st state, we also don’t like it when Americans joke about joining Canada. We like the boundaries between our two countries to be respected. Because we are different cultures, and have very different values/attitudes, and very different legal systems, we don’t always speak the same language (French has equal status to English here, and despite what most Americans think not all French Canadians live in Quebec). And generally we don’t like it when these differences are downplayed. Also, with all due respect, we don’t want to inherit your baggage. We still want to be friends with you guys though! But as different countries.
What if we could build cities like this, but for average people? Would it still be outrageous? That seems like it might be a good way to fight back against surveillance
Thanks for all the hard work you put in for making a create social network (Piefed) and helping grow the fediverse 🫡 I appreciate it. Keep fighting the good fight

What’s wrong with Nvidia? Genuine question

I don’t know anything about accounting, but at first blush it seems like tax evasion and so forth would be easier to detect because the government can look at their bank activity and perform random audits, and so on. In contrast I don’t really know what tools we’d use to catch people lying about their training data

You can bridge it over to Matrix if you feel like thats worth the time and effort

Elon Musk’s xAI has lost its bid for a preliminary injunction that would have temporarily blocked California from enforcing a law that requires AI firms to publicly share information about their training data.
How do you actually enforce this? What’s stopping these companies from just lying about what training data they use?

Don’t you think this kind of trivializes what transgender people go through? Saying you can be trans for species sounds like some sort of mockery of transgenderism

and it turns out a lot of furries DON’T like to be animals, they just… pretend to be animals but “oh that’s a character not really me” and they still consider themselves human…?
Do you not consider yourself to be human?
This is very weird. These are exactly the sort of stories I made this thread for. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing
