Yeah even ebikes pretty sure. Now many nature places can be reached with train and then some biking. But many are quite far from any good connections so until you know a bit more of the specific places you wish to visit I cannot help much
You definitely can do it by train. You can also take your bikes on pretty much any train within Slovenia afaik.
Now there are many nice areas to bike here even though there are not as many bike paths as such. I don’t know what you want to visit and what kind of biking you usually do so a rental car would be dependent on those things. Many places can be reached via train but many more cannot.
Now if you bike to get around then no issue but if you prefer going somewhere than doing a bike ride that would change things.

Tbh I think the plastic coins came around more as a convenience. If you have one in your wallet you always have the option of taking the trolley. You might not always have coins or the right sized coins. At least I know I don’t have any coins most of the time.
Yeah because people live in those hills and need to get to where the transport is. The transport then is shit because nobody uses it since nobody lives close enough to use it. Shit situation anyway.
Yeah I am not trying to detract from your experience. Just saying that even in cases where public transport is a bit better it still makes sense to have a car. If I lived in the capital I could get pretty much anywhere just using the buses and that would be fine. But outside the capital it just does not work
