So, it’s shit then?

This could kind of be a Darwin award. . ?

Yeah mean, yeah, probably. But I felt like they’d find a way round it in a month or so, or find something new to aggravate me with. It was getting like whack a mole.

Thanks, feels good 👍

I prefer Firefox, so I was using that as default browser. Windows asked me every fucking time I started my laptop if I wanted to use edge as default. Sometimes it just went ahead and made the change anyway. Windows was consuming loads of my download data, fuck knows what for. Then the copilot stuff. Finally installed mint and feel like I got my laptop back.

Too little too late. They’re right tho

Yeah, or dick pills.

Doesn’t actually seem much different to me. Would be nice to have a few more people for the niche communities - but I do kinda worry that Lemmy becoming popular will lead to an influx of bots.

I gotta spoon . . ?

When I first signed up - when reddit did the API thing - I was also shocked how empty it felt here. And it is, but when I adjusted I came to prefer that. There’s fewer commenters but also less bullshit. I spend less of my linked screen time doomscrolling and more on other stuff, like reading and gaming.

Mobile users can be pointed towards alternative clients. Makes the whole thing much more manageable and familiar. I use sync (which no longer seems to be being updated) but there are others. Don’t know if there’s a desktop equivalent but that might help with UX problems.
Also, re onboarding - many Lemmites might be astonished to realise how many non technical ppl don’t know what a server is and are intimidated by the term. Maybe just say something like ‘Click on the place nearest to you or that you like the sound of’. I dunno, a metaphor. Like, your computer is a toilet, the fediverse is the ocean. When you take a crap and flush, your turd goes to the local sewage facility where it parties with all the other turds before being dumped into the sea.
There’s probably a better metaphor, but, y’know.

I bet the bastards have already wondered
"Hmm, if this works maybe we can do all life on earth next . . ?
“We’ll make all the money!”

Didn’t realise you could do it locally, just checked online and there’s several options. So why are these fuckers building huge, resource-greedy data centres. . ?

Oh I forgot about the windows phone os, the one with the tiles. Yeah that was pretty decent, shame it didn’t get the support it needed.

And a pay rise! And a rimjob from my department manager!

In a few years there will be shit loads of irrelevant AI crap that no-one will be able to use because they can’t buy devices. These AI companies seem like a predator that goes extinct because it has eaten all its potential prey.

I mean, financially, yeah I think so. Which is ironic, since as a person he’s worth about as much as a large turd in a small bag.

My tech knowledge is not at all current, recently got sick of windows BS and installed linux mint on my laptop. The whole process was really easy, didn’t have to use command prompt at all or understand any arcane technical terms. It was actually easier and more accessible than windows.
I know it’s a Google product! But I’ve been using the android Gboard keyboard on my phone for about as long as android phones have been a thing. The slide typing has always been great. I’ve tried many other keyboards because, y’know, Google, but I’ve not found any as good.
