I feel like you are overlooking the fact, that Australia GOT invaded by the Brits. The isolation did not protect them. It slowed down the change between them and others. Cultural, economic and technical exchanged helped many countries. Change often has a negative side to it, but I think the “gradual” change of exchange is more welcome than the sudden change of invasion.

For people that don’t like Discord, this change does probably nothing. I only start it when I need it. I do basic communication,I don’t buy anything and I don’t follow 18+ content.

For all purposes this change just decreases the likelihood of accidentally seeing pr0n.
