It’s awesome, but it’s also so goddamn complex on the combat side. The narrative side takes some getting used to but for the most part the players are kinda meant to win pretty consistently
If you like sci fi settings with complex rulesets I can’t recommend Lancer enough.
As a kid I always said I’d never play DND, like it was some.kind of lameness line I wouldn’t cross. A friend coaxed me into playing in my early 20s… And damn. What a fucking blast it was. The whole group suddenly had something to do. That same friend was the DM for about a year, then gave up cuz it was too hard, so I took over, cuz someone needed to do it, tho I didn’t want to…welp I loved it (seeing a pattern here) the players loved it too.
Hell the only reason it ended was cuz my players refused to move on from Faerun. I wanted to do something new, especially after we moved from 3.5 to 5.0.
Now I build my own one shot systems, customized classes for my players, Mad Max, Hunt Showdown, Rimworld, Rain World themes. Whatever I friggan feel like. It’s great man, glad I played that first game 20 years ago. It’s an awesome hobby.
(Also anyone who has trouble with getting/painting minis, do paper printouts of pixel art stuff from Pinterest. Absolute game changer for immersion. Worst part is cutting them out and compared to painting it’s nothing)
