Well yes, obviously there was outside pressure involved. Intel tried to hide and downplay the problem at first, but as the negative attention grew they pivoted to replacing all chips quite fast (in a month or so). I may have oversimplified a bit, but rewriting history goes a bit far, don’t you think?
I remember when Intel made Pentium CPU’s that had a small math error in some very specific floating point calculations. They were so afraid to damage their reputation (which was still excellent at the time) that they offered every Pentium owner across the globe (including me) a free new Pentium CPU without the bug, shipped to us at their expense, and even sending out a courier to pick up the old CPU (again for free) a few weeks later when we had time to swap them. That was basically the opposite of what you’re suggesting.
Zen on the desktop, Firefox on mobile. Zen has quickly surpassed what I thought it would be capable of, and it keeps adding awesome UI bangers that I wish Firefox would have though of decades ago.
A cookie is a small piece of data a website can store on your computer, and it will be included with every request your browser makes to that website. While most visible cookie usage (I.e. the endless popups) is just to track you and violate your privacy, their are plenty of legitimate uses for cookies:
Basically you should keep declining cookie popups, except for functional cookies on a website where you actually want to do stuff (login, shop, etc) instead of just reading something.

25 years ago the people that were online were sitting behind a PC, not swiping on their phone and hoping the autocorrect got it right. So every typing mistake was an actual typing mistake on a real keyboard by an actual person. The use of language online has definitely gone downhill when phones entered the picture.

Tl;dw is that sure, the US could withhold software updates and sure, NL could do their own software thing, but there is a whole intelligence software thing too that makes it harder. And ultimately if the US stops supplying new parts the existing planes are quickly dead in the water anyway. So it’s a short-term solution at best.

The price of electricity in a country usually has nothing to do with whether power lines are run above or below the ground. Very often a large part of your electricity price is determined by taxes and subsidies for example. And in my country (the Netherlands) the suppliers of electricity are different companies than the ones responsible for the power network too. Like Sweden we haven’t had residential power lines running above ground for half a century or so, it’s pretty uncommon in (Western?) Europe.
Yeah they would, as multiple countries with a better standard of living than the US have already been doing it for quite a while.
Matte coatings interfere with more than just contrast, they often look a little more blurry as well in my experience. But yeah, the “massively oversimplified” was there for a reason 😆.

The massively oversimplified explanation is that more reflective coatings give a better image quality as long as you don’t have reflections. Matte coatings dull the colours of the image a bit and make it a bit less sharp.
Good chocolade. Not the stuff you can get in a supermarket, but from specialty chocolate shops, or from chocolatiers themselves. While it can be quite expensive per bite compared to ordinary chocolate a single quality chocolate can already give you a very luxurious feeling, so if you have some disposable income available it doesn’t have to break the bank.
