I think Rothfuss/Martin and others are pressured too much. No matter what they produce, it will never be good enough to satisfy the hordes of loudmouths.

There are several ‘edits’ you can put together online that are actually way better than the movies. They cut out a lot of the nonsense and trim around excess to provide a 2-ish hour movie that feels choppy but good.
I found a Ghost Magpie. These fellas are usually a pretty black and green colour, but sometimes they have a genetic abnormality that makes 'em brown!

Win 11 feels like i replaced by SSD with an HDD. I’m half convinced that they’re making it as awful as possible so when the whole OS as a service thing arrives, it’ll feel super snappy.

Do I want another option in the desktop CPU space? YES
Do I want that option to be Nvidia? NOPE

Calling the republicans bluff on this one is a strong move. In a sane world with consequences it would almost guarantee his safety. Since this world has no consequences, republicans will probably just subpoena him for a behind-closed-door court and only release things that implicate him or other Democrats.

Between a poor BluRay copy and a good DVD copy, the DVD always wins out.

Yeah, all my inputs go to the tv, then i run a wire to the receiver. This makes it so my ps5 and PC are plugged directly to the tv so i can get different resolutions are variable refresh rate and the tv can control the receiver. So when I turn something on, the tv/receiver turn on and set themselves to matching settings, Dolby, stereo, whatever. Its not huge but its a nice convinienice over the older optical connection.

I mean, yes and no. I like e-arc, and I like being able to adjust settings other than v-hold. But I don’t want this slow crud fest that keeps telling me when my neighbour turns on Bluetooth on their iphone.

Theres a ton of other things I want my TV to do before more pixels.
Actual functional software would be nice, better tracking on high speed shots (in particular sweeping landscapes or reticles in video games) higher frame rates and variable frame rate content, make the actual using of the tv, things like changing inputs or channels faster, oh man so much more.
Anything but more pixels.

I actually stumbled across my Blackberry Torch in storage and gave a great big sigh. I don’t use my phone as a media consumption device as much as many people. I understand I’m in the minority, but its comms first for me.

I did the whole work work work thing, and the only reward i got was more work and more responsibility. There may be some time where the responsibility eases off and you can actually take time off, but i never saw it. Now I’m very much life-oriented. I don’t make as much money, but I have the time to actually do things, which is more important for me.

This semester i took a basic database course, and the prof mentioned that LLMs are useful for basic queries. A few weeks later, we had a no-computer closed book paper quiz, and he was like “You can’t use GPT for everything guys!”.
Turns out a huge chunk of the class was relying on gpt for everything.

Real talk though, I’m seeing more and more of my peers in university ask AI first, then spending time debugging code they don’t understand.
I’ve yet to have chat gpt or copilot solve an actual problem for me. Simple, simple things are good, but any problem solving i find them more effort than just doing the thing.
I asked for instructions on making a KDE Widget to get weather canada information, and it sent me an api that doesn’t exist and python packages that don’t exist. By the time I fixed the instructions, very little of the original output remained.
I mean, Rothfuss has produced a couple novellas, and Martin has some projects. I get it, but at the same time i wouldn’t blame either of them if they didn’t feel comfortable releasing another of their mainline series.
I want them to, and ten years is a long ass time, but nothing they produce will live up to the hype so that probably causes a lot of anxiety.
But maybe im projecting here. Idk. I feel like the same thing is the reason we don’t have a Half-Life 3 video game. The first two made such a huge impact in terms of tech and gameplay that nothing is going to live up to the hype. So you can either kill yourself trying to achieve unachievable levels of amazing, or go do something you want to do.
