It can be rather helpful for some things but I’ve yet to see any actual data supporting it being “substantially faster”. To make something that works and is of equal quality, that is.
I mean if you’re just making the same slightly different website for different customers or similarly boilerplate stuff, I’m sure it’s substantial. But that’s not really most of dev.
I doubt it, honestly. It’d likely catch a lot of misinfo, yes, but it would likely also classify any new findings that run counter to previous assumptions as misinfo. LLMs can’t keep up to date. And they still have the same issue that whoever trains them gets to decide what is and isn’t misinfo, which starts being a problem when it’s an ubiquitous social media site.

It’s just p2w with extra steps. Pay to get stronger, or pay someone to play for you to get stronger. When games are designed to either make you play a lot or pay to get stuff to make you stronger, some people will gladly pay to either feel powerful, or just skip enough of the grind that they can focus on what’s fun.
I kind of get it, but at the point where I’d be spending hundreds or make someone play for me, I’d just look for a different game.
It would need to have an atmosphere, so asteroids and most (all? Idk not an astronomer) moons are out.
Mars might be feasible at some point in the far future, but there’s still the lag problem of 3-20 minutes depending on time of year, so not very useful for anything user facing.
I’ve always acted assuming this to be possible, but it used to require either an unhinged individual or some other reason for a very dedicated investigation. The barrier being potentially that much lower is scary, particularly for anyone with a bit of internet fame that would rather stay anonymous
I’ve found that clicking them slower (until the new image is fully faded in) can help for the ones that have images disappearing after clicking, and not actually clicking every square containing part of the traffic light (if it’s only a tiny edge) helps with the ones that are one image of a thing. I guess being fast or noticing details isn’t human enough. Having to wait is insanely annoying though.
I disagree that this will help at all. Certainly not to a degree that justifies restricting other people’s freedom. Grooming happens in small circles and doesn’t become substantially harder if teenagers can’t access nsfw channels. Predators don’t seek out adult-dominated spaces. Kids might be exposed to slightly less porn or something but they will still go to pornhub, and now an access channel where there are at least likely normal adults around that could give context id needed is restricted. Worst case they’ll be driven to fringe spaces filled with predators.
And also, people don’t just use nsfw channels for porn or questionable memes. People mark servers as 18+ for a variety of reasons, some have political discussion channels marked as nsfw to make them easier to avoid, etc.
I use discord to chat and play with friends, many servers have an nsfw channel to share things that you probably don’t want to suddenly be on your phone screen in public. It will also filter images in dms.
It’s not the end of the world, but it’s ineffective at tackling the actual problem, if anything adds appeal by making content “forbidden”. I’m certainly cancelling my cheap nitro I’ve had for a while because I’m not giving any company arbitrarily implementing identity verification any of my money.
I’ll also probably look into setting up my own matrix server later…

If there is an image scan then yea it’ll be a problem, otherwise rhe server being 18+ is just a setting you have no reason to turn on, and as long as you don’t write nsfw in the channel name, discord won’t know something’s an nsfw channel either.

Tbh for that use case this changes nothing, it’s a horrible change for all the usual reasons but it’s only implementing the stuff that was already the case in the UK for everyone. So age verification is needed for servers that set themselves as 18+ and for nsfw channels (and there might be some ai image scanning bs to determine if sent images are nsfw?), but for just talking to people you can supposedly still use it without age verification.
Still, it’ll probably get worse eventually.
I wonder if this might not be exactly the correct approach to teach them, though. When there’s actually someone to tell them “sorry that AI answer is bullshit”, so they can learn how to use it as a ressource rather than an answer provider. Adults fail at it, but they also don’t have a teacher (and kids aren’t stupid, just inexperienced).
Yeah, lots of correct observations, but also lots of wrong conclusions. I’d even argue the very first point about culture is very relevant, because japanese culture inherently puts a small bit of breaks on the aspects of capitalism that spiral out of control (they have tons of hypercapitalist issues too, though).
I think it’s correct that having private companies compete has certain advantages in railway infrastructure, if the right framework is given. Imagine someone from here was to start a railway company - they would know about induced demand, about the importance of having frequent service even at times of lower demand to enable rail as primary transport. They wouldn’t have to convince rightoids that spending public money on that is worth it, they could just do it and see the results. In general the good thing about markets is that they enable less planning overhead as everyone focuses on their own thing. Loosely some sort of swarm intelligence.
But none of that will ever work when cars are effectively subsidized and even private rail companies would still be beholden to massive political hurdles for building new lines. Though especially the latter is a real question about tradeoffs of benefit for society vs. individual preference with no single correct answer.
