False. Police agencies are the only institutions legally allowed to discriminate based on intelligence when it comes to hiring. Jordan v. City of New London set the precedent that its okay for police forces to refuse to hire a person because they are too smart. The reasoning in court was that those who are too intelligent face the risk of finding the work boring or becoming distracted by issues outside of the scope of their work. What that means from a practical standpoint is that they want dumb, obedient candidates for police positions rather than logical critical thinking individuals who might actually follow the law over orders from superiors. Its the same thing in the military too.

In the face of the facts, university education is probably more often a disqualification for actual law enforcement.

As a machinist, though, I’m coming around to metric being the superior standard for building and engineering. Its easier to keep track of everything instead of constantly converting from decimal to fraction and back. Figuring out taps and drills is WAY easier too.

Would you, as a thinking and feeling person, if given the choice, choose to be instantly annihilated by a nuclear bomb or live to be poisoned over decades? I’d choose to meet the sun, personally, but I’m always astounded how many people think the poison is somehow the lesser of these evils.

It was willing to accept a conditional surrender, which was not an offer on the table. The options were unconditional surrender or invasion and pacification. The projected cost in lives of that operation was in the millions. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined didn’t even kill 1/10th of those projections.

The answer i reviewed only explored the health effects of the hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. That’s half of the assignment. Less, actually, when you consider the comparison between the two was the entire point to begin with.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima are entirely fine. The radiation levels were back at safe levels in days. Yes, we definitely fucked up a lot of land with nuclear testing and power plant overloads, but the actual nukes humans have dropped on other humans? They’re most effective when used in an air burst, and they clear up within days.

The power generation and medical applications of nuclear science cannot be overlooked based on warmongering, especially when the part youre concerned about isnt even an issue in that application of the field.
