January 2008 I had just turned 16 and on summer break from high school. I was an awkward nerdy guy but mostly life was pretty good.
This time in 2016 my girlfriend and I had just finished University and just started working our first in-industry jobs. I had started working for a small local software job learning from a fantastic pair of developers. Later that year we would make one of the best decisions we ever made and bought our first house (it took all our savings and we had to borrow money off family and it made us quite poor for a few years).
2026 my now wife and I are still working in industry just different jobs both making significantly more money than in 2016. We sold the house we bought in 2016 for more than double what we paid due to the housing crisis pushing up house prices drastically in our area, we then built a house two years ago. Right now I’m sitting playing with our 8-month old daughter while my wife gets some extra sleep.
