Peertube seems like it can one day be great, but its currently just not popular enough, and its sad, because everyone talks about ditching google, except when it comes to youtube.

It’s a good service actually. Just not free.
That is good is up to you, as the user. I wouldn’t use their service at all without avoiding those ads, so, it’s not a good “free” service for me.
The content from 3rd partys might be good, the platform itself is not.
