Rail Baltica is one of the largest high-speed rail projects in Europe and is part of the Trans-European Transport Network. It aims to improve connectivity, strengthen regional security and support economic growth in the Baltic states. The new railway will link Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with Poland and, indirectly, with Finland, as well as with the broader European rail network.
I’m excited for Rail Baltica, but until they tax the shit out of flying it doesn’t really make much sense for anyone trying to get from Estonia to anything further than Latvia or MAYBE Lithuania.
Flying saves time and isn’t really any more expensive than what I imagine train tickets would cost on RB. It also produces considerably more CO2, but if I need to get my ass to Germany for an example, I’m not going to go “Hmm I could spend 5 extra hours and perhaps even fifty extra euros to reduce my CO2 footprint here.”
