Mr Young said he cold-called President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka 19 years ago to propose the project, but that “hurdles” like the Global Financial Crisis “swung like a wrecking ball through property-related businesses”.

The site has been vacant for more than a decade, but Mr Young said construction of Trump Tower should start this year.
