On my pockets:
Phone, wallet which includes ID, a disposable card (to open doors if someone forgets the keys inside), cheap wired hearbuds (in case I forget my headphones), a flash drive, transport pass, a debit card with 8 euros balance, and 3 euros cash.
On my neck:
Headphones
I sometimes also bring my camera bag:
Camera body, 2 lenses, field recorder, dead cat and extra batteries.

Unfortunately VMs aren’t a solution for my use case since I need no latency realtime audio or GPU acceleration

Specialist audiovisual, and 3D software.
If I can’t do something I don’t do it.
But I can, all I need is a pirate copy of the software, and extra SSD and computer goes brrrr.
Life is too short for me impose restrictions on myself and missout on life just because Richard Stallman says so.

The complication comes from when I need to use proprietary windows-only software for whatever professional or recreative reasons.
Free (as in freedom) software is great for 90% of situations, but there are things free software just can not do.
Wine exists but it’s mostly focused on video-games, and honestly, it’s such a pain to get a windows program to run on wine that I prefer to just have a second SSD with Faildos and boot from it when I eventually need to use such programs. Which I make sure to unplug the ethernet cable when I do.

The old question right? Does a simulated (or rather emulated) brain actually think and feel? Or does the computer just output what it would be if it was alive?
I think before I am, but I can’t prove that I’m self aware and not just “pretending” to do so. But because you are a human being like me, I understand that you do too. But that assumption is broken when you are not a physical organism but software running on a computer.

Please do that to my friend, please do that to my friend.
Ofc I respect his freedom to use whatever apps he chooses to use, what do you mean?
Anyway. Please meta, ban my friend from meta and make sure to track his device ID/IP/cookies etc so can can’t make a new acc.

The phone makers want nothing to do with it and are actively fighting it in court as best they can.
Doubt. This way they have excuses to farm user data.

but there’s a breed of engineers that lives for adversarial stuff like this.
I would bet some of those engineers after they finish they work day, they go on to pull an update on Ublock Origin filters so UBo works again.

EV charging, a free (as in freedom) decentralised e2ee protocol for chat and calls, p2p mesh networks and (opensourced) SDI on consumer equipments.

But you cost money monthly, require insurance, taxes, food, human rights.
Machine is a one time purchase.

I find that most my old cassettes still play, can’t say the same for the CDs.

It looks like a DeLorean model that refused to render properly
Lmao

When I joined Lemmy I used to upvote everything I mild agreed, but then I felt that I couldn’t emphasise the truly good comments because I already upvoted everything else.
So now I only upvote the best comments of a thread or a post (or at least of the ones I get to read).
As for down votes, I kinda hate getting down voted, therefore I don’t usually down vote just because I disagree, I can disagree and still respect one’s opinion (unless it’s something reactionary and/or that trully infuriates me).
If I said something that is factually wrong then by all means, down vote so other people may not be mislead by something I thought it was true. But I don’t think it’ nice to down vote on comments just because you don’t share the same opinion on a topic. Or because your personal experience is different from mine.
I also downvote a lot when posts on “technology” communities have nothing to do with (any new) technology and instead are just advertisements for some corporate product.

Yes, the place is a joke, everyone gets banned from there one way or another. Even fellow communists. Rule one “Be nice” actually means “be nice to tyrant dictators”.
The main problem is when the app stops sending or receiving messages until I restart it under Settings > Restart. It’s easy to spot when it’s not sending because I see a clock icon on the sent messages instead of the checkmarks. Easy solution is to restart it. The main issue is when the app needs to be restarted on the other side, when that happens I need to contact my correspondent via some other app to tell them to restart simplex.
I’ve had this issue for years.
Seems to work ok on the computer tho.
Too bad that simplex is buggy and doesn’t work, or else I would rant how proton requires a phone number to signup and the server side of the app is centralised and proprietary.
Unfortunately as things are now, signal is the only e2ee app (that supports voice calls) that works.
Powdered Iced Tea packages.
This crap is poison, full of artificial sweeteners and other chemicals, but water is just so bland.
