They are built so cheaply now, you and your neighbors hear too much of each other’s lives. Gone are the old insulated plaster and lathe walls; Now it is all chalk filled paper board (drywall). Even the floors are a thin layer of plywood nailed over the joists with a thin pad and carpet laying over it.

In the NE, it is very cold, icy and dangerous to try to walk half a mile to a corner store during Winter.

Yes, there are garden apartments near shopping plazas but in order to access a grocery store, one needs to play Frogger across a 5 lane highway or 6 lane intersection. A lot of people get hit whether on bikes or on foot. You don’t want to trust your life to some Zoomer or Boomer looking at their cell phone while careening down the road in their SUV or Pick-up.

Elon…and Vance… and pretty much the entire Trump cabinet… come on, we would line up and pay for the pleasure.

Or at least a back door some hacker can drive a semi-truck through. All the screen will show is I HAZ ALL YUR HAMBERDERS

He spoke that into his phone’s microphone. His fingers are too important and valuable to do anything but wipe his own ass.

I have used Motorola for the last 5 years or so. They had superior battery life compared to the others and were inexpensive. I bought my last one for like 40 bucks on clearance. I won’t spend more than 100 bucks plus tax on a phone anymore. I use minimal apps, don’t take lots of pictures with it, mostly text and make phone calls on it. I don’t keep social media apps on it nor restaurant apps. I mostly use the Maps, the Notes, and the browser applications. I don’t like the android/google calendar interface but will use reminders/tasks. I also use book/reading/podcast apps (Librivox, Podbean, Kindle, and another one…). I had overly invested in Kindle years ago unfortunately. I don’t really watch video on the phone as it is too small, but have YT music on it. I could use advice for alternatives that are better.
Maybe that is what did it for me? That and criticizing Musk and Theil, etc., all the Batman villians in the Trump WH.
I was permanently banned for life. I am not sure what I did except maybe wish for a perfectly natural health event occur for a certain evil public person. I did not consider that promoting violence or some kind of evil plan to incite violence. Basically, coronary artery disease is progressive and no one can do anything to stop it.
When they provided the link to show me the post, it didn’t lead to anything. I assume it was a bot or someone reported me. It made me realize that the internet has changed quite a bit when it came to forums. It was also probably a good thing although I did have a lot of Karma. Also, every subreddit had so many touchy rules, it was hard to keep track. I found Lemmy via C. Doctorow recommending it.

Well, you need to understand, Palantir needs a library for their facial recognition software. What if those young people refused to take advantage of the smartphone biometrics? Don’t they know it is for their security??? /s
I work in healthcare-- cardiology. So I am frequently handing out business cards for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and electrophysiology doctors. Most of the patients appreciate them. Of course, most of those patients are older… Boomer or Xers.

Monopolies are bad for everyone except their CEO and stockholders.

I have been permanently banned from Reddit for wishing for a natural disease process to occur in a certain individual. If only I were that powerful of a manifestor our world would be a better place.

Do you think a Linux phone would have the same weaknesses?

You can also use an old style camera that uses film or a polaroid. Take ziplocs or black bags to put in and hide like a cache bag.

also, tape recorders. And if you travel out of the country… buy a burner flip phone to use.

Yes, and printed maps still work. Keeping an address/phone book still works (so do sharpies on your arm).

yeah, you have to analog.
When I was in high school, our track team all met at the high school and got on a bus to the other schools matches, often they were long rides. However, the school provided the bus transpo. I think that was true for all the HS sports leagues. I think the same occurred for the middle school. The elementary school? I don’t know, I don’t think they had inter-school sports. Mostly kids were in local leagues where businesses sponsored teams and they played in local parks. (At least that was how it was in a village I lived in Long Island. We had a few ballfields and just rotated through them. For winter sports like basketball, they used the church gyms and local rec center. Believe me, my parents never drove us to any activity other than a school drop off.
